Monday evening was the debut of women’s boxing in Glasgow with three bouts in the 51 kg:

Michaela Walsh, 21, (Northern Ireland) defeated Thessa Dumas, 19, (Mauritius) 3-0.

Kristy Harris, 21, (Australia) defeated Christine Ongare, 20, (Kenya) 3-0.

Nicola Adams, 31, (England) defeated Oluwatoyin Oladeji, 26, (Nigeria) 3-0

With 11 participants in the flyweight class, five got a bye, among them, Canadian Mandy Bujold who is one of the medal favorites with Olympic Gold Nicola Adams.

Bujold, if wining her first bout on Wednesday July 30th vs Kristy Harris from Australia, will box Adams in the semifinals in August 1st, a bout was expected for the final.

Next round of bouts in this weight will be on July 30th, semifinals August 1st and final August 2nd.

The first night of women boxing showcased younger and spirited boxers. Michaela Walsh and Kristy Harris, took a win and were superior in technique than their counterparts Kenya and Mauritius boxers.

The Olympic Gold medalist Adams didn’t need to show her full potential, while Nigerian Oladeji, stayed strong the four rounds.

On Tuesday, July 29th there will be bouts in the 60kg and 75kg divisions. Full schedule:
